In this section of my
Blog, I will record all my progress in the Creativity section of CAS. I will
need to complete 50 hours for this section and provide evidence for this
(pictures, articles in the newspaper…). Some of the activities I will complete
in the future, some I am currently fulfilling and some I'm done with.
Each activity is in a different color or font and separated with some sort of
line. I hope you enjoy reading about my progress in the IB Program!

Name of Activity: HS
Drama (Mean Girls)

Supervisor: Mrs. Parks
Dates of activity: October 2013 - March 2014
Plan: I will participate in the drama production of "Mean
Girls" as a new venue for variation in my time as an IB Student. Getting
a relatively large role and helping to make the production be nice
was my plan. Stepping out of my comfort zone and trying to act should expand my
horizons and be more artistic.
Evaluate: Responsibility, Trustworthiness,
Group interaction, Public Speaking, Confidence.
Planned Evidence:
Evidence Records: Every week we practiced on Tuesday and
Thursdays, consistently showing up and being expected to know our lines.
Hours spent performing
activity: 40 hours

The play "Mean
Girls" that QSIB put on was one of a kind. We tried doing a "rolling
stage" where there aren't any props, or real backdrops. This
was challenging but we got the production and it was successful.
During the rehearsals, we found that the play was too long so to shorten
it we cut many lines, including some of mine so my relatively large
part was cut down.
The play was rocky. There is
no doubt about that. People didn't learn their lines, or know when to come
out. The costumes were limited and the set untrustworthy. I tried to keep up my
side of the part but i even forgot to on at the right time and went on
stage without any shoes on! Hopefully next time i can focus on my part and be the
best that i can instead of falling behind like everyone else. Also i hope to help out my
fellow cast mates and maybe help some learn their lines outside of drama practice.
I feel that by doing this
play, I enhanced my skills at public speaking (with a crowd of about
40), responsibly (it required consistent practices to get the lines
right and to come off and on at the correct times), and Group Interaction (we
had a cast of about 12 and we all had to work together to make this production
a success).
This project required 2. Development of New Skills, because of the public speaking aspect and the fact that I had a larger role in the play than I had before. 6. Undertaking new Challenges, was another Learning Outcome accomplished because this was a larger role and I had to overcome my fear and accept the new challenge. 7. Commitment to Activities was the next Learning Outcome accomplished because the play was difficult to learn because it was set up for a movie instead of a play so it took longer than expected to get the production running. Because of this and the fact that we kept losing actors to other activities and traveling, the play wasn't until several months after the original production date so I had to keep focused and committed to the activity. Lastly, 8. Collaboration with Others was the last Learning Outcome because I had to collaborate with others to make sure we could perform and the better our performances by practicing outside of practices, and keeping focused during out practices.

Name of Activity: Student Council
Supervisor: Mr. Farwell
Dates of activity: September 2013 - June 2014
Plan: During my participation in Student Council, I plan to help with anything that calls for our responsibility; Organizing events, babysitting if necessary, and communicate with the students about changes they want or issues they want us to address. Because this activity is in the Service Section of my Blog, I will focus on, obviously, service oriented projects (e.g.. babysitting).
Evaluate:
Hours spent performing activity:
Wine and Cheese: 3 hours (combined the 2 times i went)
General Event Planning and Participation in those Events: 20 hours
Reciprocal Dance Participation: 4 Hours
Evidence Records: I personally have baby sat on behalf of the student council, for the Wine and Cheese event held at the school every year.
Cambridge Dance:
During one of our dances in school, we invited another school to come and participate and mingle. Several months later they were having a dance and invited us to come to theirs. As representatives of the student government, we participated in the "Hollywood Dance" to be reciprocal and show our appreciation.
Our goal was to meet new people there and have a closer relationship between schools. We meet many people there and participated in their activities they had planned.
Reflection: For this activity, helped with various things around the school like babysitting and representing the school. This activity required 1. Planning and Initiation because we had to set up various activities and execute them. It also required 2. Development of New Skills because we had to do a lot of public speaking. My partner and I had to make speeches to our classmates about updates and announcements, which is something that I struggled with at first. This same situation required 3. Increased Awareness of Strengths and Weaknesses. Another Learning Outcome that I achieved was 6. Undertaking New Challenges because I had never previously been in Student Council. Also 7. Commitment to Activities was required because we had monthly meetings and babysitting dates. The last Learning Outcome was 8. Collaboration with Others because I had to work with my partner to create presentations for the class and to make speeches about updates.

| This is a picture of our set on the day of the production. |
Plan: Throughout my school years I have always participated in drama
but never very big parts. This January, drama will start practicing for the
play Mama Mia! and I want to be
a bigger part in this play. I've never really sung before and this would be a
great opportunity To try new things and push my boundaries.

| Here, I'm at the left and I'm singing the back-up to the lead. |
Planned Evidence:
Practice every Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday after school for 1 hour 15
minutes and some lunches.
Hours spent performing
activity: 40
REFLECTION:
"Mama Mia" was one of the funnest plays I've preformed. With the dancing, singing and and drama, we all had a great time. It was hard though because I had never sang out loud before and my partner in the singing part had a quiet voice. Overcoming it was a challenge but the scene went very well. In general, preparing fr the play was hard too because it required intensive practices with complete focus, and extra practices including lunches and free periods. This was so intensive because our last play took a really long time to finally put on so we had to start when it was almost over. By then we only had 8 weeks to put it together before the end of school so every practice counted. Even though it was hard, I felt like I gained experience and trustworthiness because we had to rely so much on our other cast mates. Unlike the last play we had (see "Mean Girls" above) our play was coordinated and everyone was on board with giving 100% of their time and attention.
This project required 1. Planning and Initiation because we had to plan out the stage and we had to change the words of the play to fit the small amount of time we were given to get ready for the play. The next Learning Outcome accomplished was 2. Development of New Skills because I had only needed to sing small parts in plays before but here I was singing with only one other person so I had to learn to sing and harmonize with her. This was also 6. Undertaking New Challenges because I knew that I needed to sing but I still undertook the challenge and our singing part was perfect. Also it includes 7. Commitment to Activities because we had a very short time to get ready for the play, only about 7 weeks for an entire play meaning we had to be at every practice including lunches and free periods. It was difficult but the commitment was worth the final product. The last Learning Outcome was 8. Collaboration with Others because I had to trust my fellow actors and my singing partner to know their lines as well and the dance moves to create a flowing performance. Overall, the play went very smoothly and there was a huge crowd there to watch our performance and support us.
Name of Activity: Bubble Ball Committee
Name of Supervisor: Mrs. Galicia, Mrs. Parks
Dates: January 21- Bubble Ball on February 6th
Plan: I plan to help out with the Bubble Ball and make a poster for the team to advertise the event and get more people to come.
Above is the final poster I made for the Bubble Ball. I tried to show the elegance by using all black with only white type and type highlights.
This project required the Learning Outcomes 1. Planning and Initiation because I had to plan the poster and set time to make it because it was actually harder than I expected to make it match all the criteria than many different people wanted. It also required 2. Development of New Skills because I had to use a new program that I had not previously used to make the poster because the one I had used before had expired. Because of this aspect, there Learning Outcome, 6. Undertaking New Challenges because the new program was difficult to use and it was a new challenge for me to figure out. Lastly, this project required 8. Collaboration with Others because I was communicating with many different people as I was making the poster and trying to make all of their wishes on the poster.
