In this section of my Blog, I
will record all my progress in the Action section of CAS. I will need to
complete 50 hours for this section and provide evidence for this (pictures,
articles in the newspaper…). Some of the activities I will complete in
the future, some I am currently fulfilling and some I'm done with.
Each activity is in a different color or font and separated with some sort of
line. I hope you enjoy reading about my progress in the IB Program!

Name of Activity: HS
Girls Volleyball
Supervisor: Mr.
Galicia
Dates of activity: August- October
Plan: In Volleyball I have always been a relatively good
player; I can serve the ball, spike, bump, set… the basics. But this year
I want to become great at serving the ball over the net consistently and
with strength.
Evaluate: Through
the duration of our time on the volleyball team, I learned Group
Interaction, Trustworthiness, Responsibility, and Teamwork.
Planned Evidence: 3
times a week, we would practice for our up-coming tournament held
in the American International School of Budapest, AISB (picture
below).
Hours spent performing
activity: 40
Evidence Records: We had practice in the hot sun, cold winds, and rain 3 time
a week. We all shared the title of Captain, and shared the resonsiblty to
be trustworthy of our title.
REFLECTION:
During our time in
Volleyball, we had wins and losses and we held together as a team and made it
through the end, no matter the score. In the first tournament of the year in the junior variety league, we won
First Place. We felt like we totally beat every team overtly with many points above theirs. In the second tournament, our coach felt like we could step up the level of play and we got moved up to varsity level and came in 5th
out of 6. I feel like the reason we lost so dramatically compared to the first tournament was because we all didn't believe in ourselves. We all thought that we couldn't win at a varsity level and that we'd get competly stomped on. And unfortunately we kind of did, but we were playing terribly as well. If we had played at the level we did in the first tournament, we could have easily come in 2nd but it was psychological for us.
Personally this year, I was trying to learn to become a better setter so I could replace our setter leaving this year. I played several games and I feel like I improved in my setting ability and I can play as a replacement setter next year.
Next year I will join the team again hopefully we can all come together and have a little more faith in each other. Knowing that I will be the captain next year, I feel like it will be up to me to keep the team in a positive attitude and lead us to our next victory!
This project required 2. Development of New Skills because I learned more about being a setter and can be a replacement for the setter we are losing next year. this is also 6. Undertaking New Challenges because I had never been a setter before and I undertaking the challenge helped me become a better, more rounded player. This project also required 7. Commitment to Activities because we had to attend every practice if we expected to become better and play in the games. Also, Volleyball went on for about half the year so we had to stay motivated the entire time. Lastly, 8. Collaboration with Others was the last Learning Outcome because we had to learn to trust other players with the ball and trust them to get it back in the game.

Name of Activity:
HS Girls Soccer
Supervisor: Mrs. Galicia
Dates of activity:
September- October 21
Plan: In Soccer I have almost always played goalie. Its what im best at so I stayed there. This
year I would like to play at least 2 full games out of the goal box. Trying
something new could be benefical.
Evaluate: Teamwork (Adapting to my
new position may be hard at first and I hope my team will help me),
expanding bounties,
Planned Evidence: \/ In reflection
Hours spent performing activity:
20 hours of practice time, And For the Tournament 3 days.
Evidence Records:
During the time we were in Verona Italy for The Mediterranean Cup, I played
a total of 5 out of 7 games completely out of the goal box.
We even had an article written about us in
the school newspaper accompanied by some great photos…..
Girls’ Soccer Team Hoists Third Place Cup!
by Ms. Debbie Galicia, Girls Secondary Soccer Coach
The Secondary Girls’ Soccer team participated in the Mediterranean Soccer Cup in Verona, Italy last weekend. The tournament lasted three days, with the girls playing seven games during the weekend. After a series of long-fought battles, the girls emerged victorious in Third Place with a trophy and personal medals.
The girls played hard and with great sportsmanship during the entire tournament and had an outstanding time. The players that attended were Gabi, Marleen, Kris, Tau Eun, Seo Hyun, Emma, Joo Hyun, Chelsea, Sedef, and Sanna.
REFLECTION:
| This is picture of our team at the Mediterranean Cup. |
| This one is of me in the goal box kicking a goal kick. |
This last one is the evidence of me actually playing outside the goal box (left side).
For this activity, I did reach my goal of playing 2 full games out of the goal box, and even played more. I feel that reaching outside of my comfort zone in the goal box helped me to see that I am actually a good field player as well as a good goalie. I even assisted in making a goal against one of the best teams there. Some of my strengths on the field are aggression, a strong kick, and knowing where to go when. My weaknesses are pretty important; I get overly personal about the matches (meaning I blame myself for mistakes that I shouldn't), and my stamina wasn't very strong by the time the tournament was held.
Playing in the field
instead of the goal also open up the goal for other people. My replacement in
the goal was one of my friends who did NOT want to be there. At all. But she
stepped up to the plate and we discovered a new talent that she enjoyed. She
had a chance to show her skills and she even got praises from other teams. So
stepping out of the goal box didn't only help me, but also helped someone
else discover a new position on the field that they enjoyed.
In the end we got 3rd place
and compliments from the director about our sportsmanship attitudes. I
hope that next year we can improve on the sportsmanshipness and
actually WIN the award. And even after 9 hours on a cramped bus to get there,
we were still in good spirits. If I had to do this activity over again I would definetly get in better shape over the course of the season and work
harder on seeing in a positive light rather than a negative one.
This project required 2. Development of New
Skills because I learned to play out of box more and become a better field player. Also this project included the Learning Outcome 3. Increased Awareness of Strengths and Weakness because I became aware that my stamina was not very strong and I needed to work on that throughout the season. Another learning outcome accomplished was 5. Consideration of Ethics. This was apparent in some of out games because during some of them, we would lose very badly; one game was 12-0. This is a consideration that the other should have considered because losing so badly mad some players on the team really upset and made us consider if it was ethically to ever play that team again. 6. Undertaking New
Challenges was also included because I had to play in the field and learn a new challenge. This also required 7. Commitment to Activities because the sport went on for half the year and required that we all stayed focused on team and cam to practices and games to contribute to our wins. Finally, Soccer required 8. Collaboration with
Others because we had to play with our teammates and trust them with the ball to score and and bring it up.

Plan: This year I am the volleyball captain and I plan to lead my team with guidance to victories and hopefully help some of the newer students to become better volleyball players.

Hours Spent Performing Activity: 20 hours of practice and our end of the year tournament at Salzburg
Reflection:
We struggled at the beginning because one of the starting 5 broke her ankle but because i kept positive feelings and tried to encourage the rest oft he team, I feel that we were successful because of the positive attitudes and encouraging words.
This activity required 2. Development of New Skills because this year, we lost most of our starting 6 and our setter so I had to learn how to be a setter in a small amount of time. Also, I had an 3. Increased Awareness of Strengths and Weaknesses because during my training for Setter, I learned that I was good at digging the ball, but I wasn't very good at setting the ball in a place where the spiker could easily get to it. Also I participated in 6. Undertaking New Challenges because I had to learn from scratch how to become primarily a Setter and learn how to Set properly. Another Learning Outcome that I achieved was 7. Commitment to Activities. I had to commit to trying to become a Setter and encouraging others on the court as well. The last Learning Outcome that I achieved in this activity was 8. Collation with Others because I had to have faith in my players to hold up their part of the game and the players that I set to.

Plan: For this year in HS Soccer, I hope to gain more stamina and be able to run further and for longer periods of time while playing soccer because this is one of my weak spots. Hope fully I can play out of goal box more this year and

Reflection: This year, QSIB Lady Bears were, in the beginning, an inexperienced team but as the year went on, we became a stronger team because of our teamwork and patience. I met my goal of playing out of the box more and mostly playing at Midfield. Midfield is a position were you run the most and because I played this position so much, I feel like I got in really good shape during this season and became better as a Midfielder. This activity required 2. Development of New Skills because I learned as a Midfielder to keep up with the movement of the ball and be more efficient with the use of my energy. Another Learning Outcome that this activity required, was 3. Increased Awareness of Strengths and Weaknesses because I learned that I really needed to work on my stamina to become a better soccer player, which was one of my weaknesses. The next Learning Outcome that i achieved in this activity was 5. Consideration of Ethics. In some of our games, we beat the other team by many points, sometimes upwards of 5 points. Its hard to decipher when to stop trying to score more points because at some point, it gets unfair and like we are now just trying to show off. This ethical consideration, can hurt or help someone mentally because they don't feel at a complete loss. Another Learning Outcome that came up during this activity was 7. Commitment to Activities. Throughout the season, I had to come to every practice and exercise outside of practices to get and keep in shape for the season, requiring commitment. The last Learning Outcome that I achieved during this activity was 8. Collaboration with Others because I had to trust my more inexperienced teammates with the ball and handling themselves.
